As we look toward the new year, we’re taking a quick look back at the top stories that captured the attention of our community and those interested in maximizing their imaging data. These pieces reflect the growing demand we’ve seen for advanced medical imaging solutions in the academic and clinical research space as well as a growing recognition of the value of imaging data as a strategic asset across the life sciences industry. Take a look at our top stories, from cutting-edge platform enhancements to thought leadership on critical industry debates.

1. Webinar: Accelerate MedTech Innovation and Efficiency with Flywheel

MedTech organizations looking for actionable strategies to improve research workflows, enhance collaboration and drive innovation helped make this webinar with Microsoft a success. Check it out on demand to learn how you can:

  • Create a central repository of imaging and associated data

  • Accelerate ML and AI model development

  • Activate your data for enhanced medical device development and operational workflows

2. Flywheel Releases Enhanced Multimodal Functionality with Video Capabilities

In 2025, we introduced a major platform enhancement: integrated video viewing and annotation capabilities. This advancement allows researchers to manage and analyze medical video data right alongside imaging data — within a single, secure environment. Including both video and imaging data allows for richer datasets, so life sciences teams can unlock new insights and accelerate discovery.

3. Medical Imaging Platforms: Ending the Build vs. Buy Debate

Should your organization build its own imaging data management platform or invest in a proven solution? Many organizations we’ve spoken with over the years have struggled with this issue, leading to wasted resources and time. This white paper breaks down the pros and cons of each approach, helping research leaders make informed decisions that align with their strategic goals. Read on if you’re looking to evaluate the scalability, compliance and cost-effectiveness of homegrown versus purpose-built medical imaging infrastructure.

4. Siemens Healthineers Leverages Flywheel to Accelerate Research and Development

Like many medical imaging device developers and manufacturers, Siemens Healthineers Molecular Imaging relies on uploads of scans from multiple customer sites to optimize its devices. But how could they ensure all parties could upload, access and analyze the scores of structured and unstructured imaging data needed to maximize their devices’ potential? Learn how Siemens Healthineers streamlines data management and accelerates R&D initiatives with a collaborative, cloud-based platform.

5. Flywheel Launches Validated Imaging Solution to Accelerate Decision-Making Across the Clinical Trial Ecosystem

At the end of the year, we launched a validated imaging solution designed to transform how sponsors use the valuable imaging data collected through clinical trials. Flywheel Validated helps clinical trial sponsors make go/no-go decisions, reduce timelines and improve downstream data use, all within a 21 CFR Part 11 compliant platform. Our goal with Flywheel Validated is to help pharmaceutical companies achieve greater efficiency across the entire trial ecosystem, bringing lifechanging therapies to market faster.

Looking Ahead

In 2026, we’re excited to continue building on these advancements to serve all our clients, from academic medical centers to pharmaceutical companies and medical device organizations bringing new advances to the medical field. Stay tuned to see what new capabilities in multimodal imaging data management, collaborative research and AI development Flywheel has in store. As always, we remain committed to helping our partners achieve breakthroughs that improve health and change lives.
