Flywheel Unveils New Viewer Updates at RSNA
A key part of Flywheel’s end-to-end solution for medical imaging is its built-in viewer, which allows imaging experts and data scientists to review imaging data and AI model outputs directly on the platform. Now, Flywheel has revealed updates to the viewer that address more of researchers’ key challenges when analyzing imaging data.
About the viewer
Flywheel offers a built-in, radiology-grade viewer based on the open-source OHIF Viewer v3. Flywheel’s viewer has its own customizations and unique interface, empowering researchers across multiple therapeutic areas.
Key updates to the viewer
Flywheel has released enhanced viewer features for oncology research, including volumetric segmentation, 3D rendering, PET fusion, total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) calculations and RTStruct loading. Additionally, there is improved handling of 4D ultrasound and a preview of tooling specific for ophthalmology.
Summary of viewer updates
Learn more about each of these updates below:
-
Volumetric segmentations – Easily segment images across planes using the sphere-segmentation tool and capture 3D volumetric segmentations. These segmentations can then be exported or saved directly back to Flywheel as a DICOM SEG file.
-
3D rendering – Leverage out-of-the-box 3D imaging layouts and rendering presets to dynamically interact with your medical images. Easily refine the 3D view with user-driven options.
-
4-D ultrasound viewer and annotation support – This update helps medical device research and development teams complete important work involving 4D ultrasound such as echocardiogram data.
-
RTStruct – The viewer now supports loading multi-label RTStruct files as part of your standard radiation Oncology research work.
-
PET fusion and TMTV – Users can now use this viewer mode to easily fuse their PET and CT or MR data and calculate total metabolic tumor volume live in the viewer.
-
Ophthalmology – Easily navigate retinal slice images, view ETDRS grids across 2D images, leverage out-of-the-box ophthalmology tooling such as OCT scale display and more.
Why we made these updates
The viewer is an integral part of the end-to-end imaging data management solution that we offer. These new elements help us support more workflows in more specific therapeutic areas, such as oncology. With new tools like 3D segmentation and rendering, researchers get increased efficiency and flexibility, as well as additional layout options to meet image review preferences. Overall, the Flywheel viewer now offers a better user experience and improved performance for nearly all imaging research needs.
