Kate Alpert

Vice President of Engineering and Product

Kate is the Vice President of Engineering and Product at Flywheel. She leverages 15 years of experience in the biomedical informatics field to shape solutions that support researchers and physicians across the academic, clinical, and life science realms. She graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College and received her MS in computer science from Georgia Tech.

Kate began her career as a software engineer at Northwestern University, where she designed computational anatomy algorithms and customized the XNAT platform to facilitate their execution at scale. She joined the Radiologics team to lead cloud-focused scalability enhancements to the open source and 21 CFR Part 11 compliant XNAT products, powering both clinical trials and AI-driven patient diagnostics. At Flywheel, Kate and her teams design and build the Discovery and open source offerings. Kate is passionate about leveraging technology to empower scientists, encourage reproducible research, hydrate data deserts, and accelerate healthcare innovation. When not in front of her computer, she is likely skiing, biking, climbing, or running at her home in the Rocky Mountains.
